5 Rum Buck recipes to try for #NationalRumDay 2020

Not that we ever needed a reason to share some rum with our closest friends, but today is a certainly a day to celebrate, cause its #NationalRumDay!

 

Our favorite way to enjoy rum, quite naturally, is in the form of a buck. Simply put, a buck is when ginger ale is mixed with citrus in a drink and these are our 5 favorite versions.

 

1) The Bacardi Ocho Rum Buck

Ingredients:
Bacardi Ocho - 45 ml
Filtered Tamarind Water - 15 ml
Svami Ginger Ale
Cinnamon - a stick
Sprig of mint

Directions:
Fill a highball glass with ice, then add the rum & filtered tamarind water (see recipe below).
Sit with cinnamon stick and drop it in the glass.
Top with Svami Ginger Ale.
Garnish with a mint sprig.

Recipe for filtered tamarind water:
Take 50 gms of tamarind in a bowl.
Warm 200 ml water to a rolling boil and pour it over the tamarind.
Allow the tamarind to soak in the water for about 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes mash the tamarind well into the water until it feels completely soft, strain the tamarind water into a fresh bowl using a cheesecloth and squeeze out as much extract from the pulp as possible.
Next add another 100 ml of water and mash the pulp once again to make more tamarind water. Strain this second extract with coffee filter paper.
The tamarind water is now ready for use in cocktails and many other things that require a tangy or sour flavour.



2) The Diplomatico Rum Buck

Ingredients:
Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva - 45 ml
Dry Vermouth - 15 ml
Fresh Orange Juice - 10 ml
Svami Ginger Ale
Orange twist

Directions:
Fill a highball glass with ice, then add the rum, dry vermouth & orange juice
Top with Svami Ginger Ale.
Garnish with an orange orange twist.

3) The Mount Gay Rum Buck

Ingredients:
Mount Gay Eclipse - 45 ml
Green Apple Juice - 25 ml
Lime Juice - 5 ml
Svami Ginger Ale
Stick of cinnamon

Directions:
Fill a highball glass with ice, then add the rum, green apple juice & lime juice.
Top with Svami Ginger Ale.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

4) The Plantation Rum Buck

Ingredients:
Plantation Original Dark - 45 ml
Supasawa (sour mix) - 15 ml
Svami Ginger Ale
Orange wedge

Directions:
Fill a highball glass with ice, then add the rum and supasawa.
Top with Svami Ginger Ale, stir.
Garnish with an orange wedge.

**In case you don't have Supasawa (sour mix), use lemons instead

 

5) The Old Monk Rum Buck

Ingredients: 
Old Monk Reserve - 45 ml
Lime Juice - 15 ml
Svami Ginger Ale
Lime wedge

Directions:
Fill a highball glass with ice and add the rum and lime juice.
Top with Svami Ginger Ale, stir.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
